Speaking to God

Do you ever wonder....Am I praying enough? Am I praying right? What do I pray for?

Romans 8:26-27In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Matthew 6:7"When you pray, don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again."

"I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."


Prayer Develops Our Relationship with God!

There is never too much or too little praying, as long as we do it without losing touch with God and losing connection with Him. God wants us to stay attached to Him.

If we never speak to our loved ones or never listen to anything they might have to say to us, our relationships will quickly deteriorate. It is the same way with God. Prayer—communicating with God—helps us grow closer and more intimately connected with God. For when we lose connection our bodies grow weak and more susceptible to sin.
Matthew 26:41"Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak!"

 If we are consistent with our prayers then we are consistent with Him. I find myself saying mini prayers throughout the day rather than a long prayer at night.
 During special times, like when I take that first step outside for the day and endure the beauty all around me, "God , thank you for this moment that I may breath this fresh air and enjoy the nature all around me."
Even during hard times at work, "God keep me strong that I may get through this day and be thankful that I have a job when there are others who are struggling with far more worse."
He wants us to give thanks for things he has given us.
 He wants us to pray for others.

He wants us to communicate to him in many ways...

He wants us to pray alone in secret.
Matthew 6:6"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Mark 1:35"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."

He wants us to pray together with others.
Matthew 18:19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. "

He wants us to be thankful and express your gratitude to Him. Life has many beautiful and miraculous moments.

 He even wants us to ask for things and ask for help when we need it. He loves us and will give us what we need.
John 15:7But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!
Mark 11:24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Psalm 34:17"The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles."

He wants us to ask for forgiveness for the sins we have committed throughout the day.
James 5:16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

2 Chronicles 7:14"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. "

Mark 11:24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Don't expect to get everything that you ask for. He will give you what is good for you. I had a friend once that actually asked me to pray for her that she won a super bowl money pot!

  The Bible gives several reasons or causes for failure in prayer:
• Disobedience - Deuteronomy 1:45; 1 Samuel 14:37
• Secret Sin - Psalm 66:18
• Indifference - Proverbs 1:28
• Neglect of mercy - Proverbs 21:13
• Despising the Law - Proverbs 28:9
• Bloodguiltiness - Isaiah 1:15
• Iniquity - Isaiah 59:2; Micah 3:4
• Stubbornness - Zechariah 7:13
• Instability or Doubt - James 1:6-7
• Self-indulgence - James 4:3

Despite our heartfelt prayers, things don’t always go the way we want. A loved one dies. You lose your job. The outcome is just the opposite of what you asked for. What then?
 God wants you to be honest with him. You can give him your anger and disappointment.
Ever notice how we pray best when we offer God our pain in humble sincerity?

Matthew 5:3-4
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." 
Psalm 147:3
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." 

God wants us to come to him with our physical and emotional illnesses.  Have faith in God. Be bold. Be persistent. If, for his own mysterious reasons, God does not heal your illness, you can be sure he will answer your prayer for supernatural strength to endure it.


God desires our praise. You can shout, sing, dance, laugh, and cry with tears of joy. Sometimes your finest prayers have no words at all, but God, in his infinite goodness and love, will understand perfectly.
